PRE Mares

We are fortunate to own some of the best brood and competition PRE mares in Australia. Our PRE fillies are very highly sort after and when available for purchase, are usually sold before they are advertised.

BHM Silver Ballerina

BHM Silver Ballerina

Fully Imported Bloodlines
Sire: Galero XIV (Imp Spain)
Dam: Kenia-FC (Imp Spain)
Born: 1 August 2007
Black/Grey PRE filly

Ballerina is the first foal from Kenia FC (Imp Spain) by Galero XIV (Imp Spain) and boy is she a beauty! Ballerina's bloodlines combine the best of Spanish dressage lines. She is true to type, has wonderful straight movement and already displays the innate ability to collect. Ballerina is a heterozygous grey, which means she has a 50% chance of producing a solid colour by a solid stallion.

Congratulations to Michael and Patti Rodriguez on purchasing Ballerina. At this stage, Ballerina will stay at Black Horse Manor and will be campaigned as part of the BHM show team.

BHM Black Porscha

BHM Black Porscha (Imp Spain)

Sire: Carlo-Seni
Dam: Kenia-FC
Born: 27 February 2006

This stunning filly is the 2nd female to be imported into Australia from Spain in over 30 years - her mother Kenia-FC being the first! We are so excited and happy with this filly. Her conformation is fantastic and it looks like she will mature in excess of 16hh. Porscha's temperament is to die for and nothing seems to faze her. Only 3 days after 1st birthday Porscha was shown at the 2007 AHAA Australian National Show under the Spanish judge SR. Juan Carnero where she won 1st Led Spanish Filly under 2yrs old. She took the travel, preparation and show just like a veteran. Porscha is an absolute treasure and we look forward to her show and ridden career. Porscha's sire, Carlo-Seni, is a Qualified stallion from the famous Yeguadas Senillosa, Spain.

Sire: Doncel VII
Dam: Jacena
“Apto” – Approved for Breeding

Kenia-FC, a grey PRE mare approved for breeding, arrived in Australia in August 2005. She is sired by the sensational black PRE stallion Doncel VII out of the proven producer of excellent conformated progeny, Jacena. She is a heterozygous grey who carries the black gene. Kenia-FC was purchased because of her excellent movement, fabulous length of rein and neck set, complimenting Galero XIV (Imp). Once again we thank Miriam Frenk for her help in locating Kenia-FC for us and arranging the importation.

An added bonus was that Kenia-FC was covered by the magnificent black ‘Calificado’ PRE dressage stallion, Carli Seni prior to leaving Spain. Carli Seni was 2nd in the Functionality Test and 11th overall in the senior stallion class of the 2004 SICAB - Spain's premier show. On 27 February 2006, Kenia-FC gave birth to the lovely black/grey P.R.E filly, BHM Black Porscha.

To date Kenia-FC has produced us two stunning Galero XIV fillies - BHM Silver Ballerina and BHM Silver Diamontina.  Both these fillies are exceptional and confirm that the Kenia-FC/Galero XIV cross works.  Kenia-FC is back in foal to Galero XIV and we keep our fingers crossed that she can produce us another filly, making it 4 in a row.

Caballeriza Marieta

Caballeriza Marieta

Sire: Esplendido (Black)

“Apto” – Approved for Breeding by the Spanish Revision Team

Marieta is a broodmare of exceptional quality and can easily be ranked as one of the best Spanish broodmares in Australia. She is the dam of BHM Black Elegancia, BHM Chocolate, BHM Possum and BHM Masterpeice. Marieta is a true 16.2hh bay Pure Spanish mare that like her mother carries the iridescent gene. Her father is the black Hortellano son, Esplendido who himself is a magnificent 16.2hh jet black stallion and a sire of many lovely offspring. Her dam is La Castana, a mare with true Spanish features and movement, and a well known producer.

Due to Marieta’s superb quality we have decided to use her in our ‘Spanish Warmblood’ breeding program.  She is currently in foal to the sensational international dressage stallion – Don Schufro and is due to foal in September 2009.  Regardless of the sex, the foal will be retained to compete, however we are hoping for a filly as we would like to use this filly as a broodmare at the end of her competition career.

Proudly sponsored by MADDENS PRODUCE, Hume ACT.

Elli, like her mum, is expected to mature 16.1-2hh. Elli is black with three white socks and is just stunning. Elli combines the bloodlines of Lusillo (Imp) and Hortelano (Imp), a cross that is well know for producing exceptional horses. Elli will be retained by Black Horse Manor and will join our broodmare band at the completion of her show career.

Elli was recently broken to saddle and has shown amazing potential as a serious dressage prospect. As a result we have engage the services of the up and coming dressage rider, Rebbeca Walshe, to train and compete Elli. Our target is the 4yr old Young Horse Dressage of the Stars in 2009. At her first outing after only being under saddle for 5 weeks, Elli won the Ridden Spanish Mare 2 and under 4yrs at the 2007 AHAA Australian National Show under the Spanish judge SR. Juan Carnero.

Warmblood Mares

We are intending to produce this cross more frequently as we expend our efforts to produce international quality dressage horses with Spanish blood.  The Spanish blood provides the elevation, collection, trainability and temperament, and the Warmblood contributes the 'lift', extensions and height.  This is one area of our breeding program to keep an eye on as we introduce European bloodlines such as Sandro Hit.

Graf Destiny

Graf Destiny

Registered Hanoverian
Sire: Graf Landau (Han)
Dam: Windstille (Han)
Born: 2/12/1995
Black, 15.3hh

Eve was purchased due to her exceptional movement, conformation and bloodlines.  She will be purpose bred to Galero XIV (Imp) to produce exceptional dressage prospects. As a youngster Eve was a very talented dressage competitor and went on to produce some fabulous warmblood foals. We wish to thank Gemma Parker for allowing us to purchase Eve.

As Eve was purchased from Victoria during the NSW Influenza lockdown, she was sent to Goulburn Valley Equine Centre, Shepparton Victoria for insemination with Galero XIV (Imp)'s frozen semen. On 6 October 2008, Eve gave us our first Galero XIV (Imp) frozen semen baby – a beautiful jet black filly that we named BHM Black Velvet.  “Velvet” is exactly what we hoped for and has reinforced what an excellent choice we made by purchasing Eve.  Eve has been returned to Galero XIV (Imp) for an October 2009 foal.

This mare is owned by Natalie Blundell however her foals are owned in partnership with Black Horse Manor. ‘Ari’ was competed once by Natalie, for a 2nd and 4th at Young Dressage Assoc. in 2006. Unfortunately an untimely injury put an early end to Ari’s very promising dressage and eventing career.  In September 2008 Ari produced us her first Galero XIV (Imp) foal - a stunning black colt with a white blaze and two white socks who we have named him BHM Black Magic.  Ari has been returned to Galero XIV (Imp) for a September 2009 foal and we are keeping our fingers crossed for a filly.

Thoroughbred Mares

The Thoroughbred cross is the most common breed used by Australian Spanish breeders to produce derivatives, as it generally results in a fabulous versatile cross that is very marketable. As a rule we only use the best quality black TB mares from proven performance, including racing, backgrounds. Black is a very uncommon colour in TB mares and good ones are even rarer. Occasionally we will buy an exceptional quality chestnut mare that is not black, but has the black colour genetics behind her.

Miss Compliance

Miss Compliance

Sire: Sanction
Dam: Dame Ebony
Born: 29/09/94
16.1hh Chestnut Stud Book mare registered No. 357542

Although this mare is not black, her mother is. Therefore ‘Tanya’ has a good chance of producing a black foal by Galero XIV (Imp). Tanya was chosen because of her fantastic paces, including a fabulous walk and 'lift'. As a young race mare she had won several country races. Tanya is such a loving mare and is so easy to handle and ride. She is a great mum and has been bred to Galero XIV (Imp) for a purpose bred dressage/eventing prospect.  This foal is due September 2009.

Rayanui

Rayanui

Sire: Bureaucracy (NZ)

This gentle giant is leased in partnership with Natalie Blundell. Natalie broke 'Ray' in and was so impressed with her movement and temperament that Natalie asked Ray's owner if she could use her as a broodmare when she had finished racing. Ray’s pedigree speaks for itself and we are very fortunate that Ray’s owner has given us the opportunity to breed some foals by Galero XIV (Imp).

Her first foal by Galero XIV (Imp) is BHM Black Galliano.  Galliano looks like his mum and will definitely have her height.  He is jet black with a white star and one white sock and an absolutely laidback temperament. Galliano is not for sale and will commence training with Natalie as a three year old.  Ray has been returned to Galero XIV (Imp) for a September 2009 foal and we are hoping for a filly.

Smooth Kiss

Smooth Kiss

Sire: Alquoz (USA) 1985
Dam: Light Caress (AUS) 1978
Black 16hh Studbook Thoroughbred
Born: 1993

Smooth Kiss is a well-bred mare who won several races before she was retired. Her Smooth Kiss is a well-bred mare who won several races before she was retired. Her nature cannot be faulted and she has the most beautiful rhythmic movement with a long flowing stride. Her previous foals have been stunners. Smooth Kiss was purpose bred to Galero XIV (Imp) to produce a competitive dressage or eventing prospect with the resulting foal, BHM Black Legend a super result.

Unfortunately due to the EI lockdown, Smooth Kiss was unable to be returned to Galero XIV (Imp) for a 2008 foal.

Her next Galero XIV (Imp) foal is due in September 2009.

Quarter Horse Mares

We have had great success with crossing Galero XIV (Imp) over good quality QH and QH cross mares.  Galero XIV (Imp)'s confirmation lends itself beautifully to the QH.  When we look for QH mares we still look for the 'perfect' conformation however we particularly select mares with excellent hindquarters, good bone and height.  We are very careful to choose mares that do not 'run' down hill.  Although this cross has its own breed registry in America called "Azteca', it is not a recognised 'stand a lone' breed in Australia. However, Australian bred Aztecas are eligible for American registration.

Princess

Princess

Unregistered QH cross
Jet black, 14hh, about 14 yrs old

Not much is known about Princess other than she was a great kids pony and had produced some beautiful foals to QH stallions. Her lovely long mane, forelock and tail make it hard to believe that she is not an Andalusian cross!

Her two foals by Galero XIV (Imp), BHM Black Knight and BHM Black Jack, have surpassed all expectations. We are now waiting for Princess to produce us a filly!

Ellegance

Ellegance

Sire: Stud Book Thoroughbred
Dam: Reg. QH mare by Boom Jet (QH)
Chestnut 16.3hh QH/TB

Although very tall and large framed, this mare is extremely gentle and just so sweet. As a young mare she was successfully campaigned at many hack shows and qualified for Melbourne Royal. She was also successfully campaigned in Dressage. For her previous owners, Ellegance has produced some very competive and successful horses by QH stallions. We have been very fortunate to have Ellegance join our broodmare band and this decision is supported by her first Galero son, BHM Godsent. Godsent is such a striking boy with enormous movement that he will be retained by BHM to be competed for dressage. It is hoped that her 2008 Galero foal will be a filly and thus retained.

Other Breed Mares

A stud is only as good as its mares and therefore I will not disregard a good mare just because she is not registered or a recognised breed. Occasionally I will see a mare that catches my eye for one reason or another and feel that she will produce an excellent foal by Galero.

In the case of the paint and pinto mares, I love a well marked and put together broken coloured horse, and believe a coloured Galero baby will be just awesome.  It is not as easy as it sounds to breed a broken colour from a solid sire, as most coloured mares are not homozygous.  This means that 50% of foals will be solid.  As a result the mare must be of absolute top quality so as to make a solid foal still marketable.
