Black Horse Manor is located in the beautiful Burra Valley, 20 minutes south east of Canberra and Queanbeyan. We have been involved in exhibiting, riding and breeding Spanish Horses and Performance Derivatives since 1992 and in 1997 Black Horse Manor was established. A significant investment in infrastructure has occurred since then and is continuing. Why you should buy from Black Horse Manor
BHM has positioned itself as one of the most prominent and premier breeders in the Southern Hemisphere. Our commitment and belief in the breed, has encouraged us to take the Australasian breed industry lead in improving the genetic quality and diversity, by importing quality stud stock and bloodlines. We are the first stud since the 1970’s to import a P.R.E mare, in foal, from Spain; with the resulting foal a filly. This mare was especially selected to compliment our fabulous imported black stallion, Galero XIV (Imp). Our goal is to continue to improve the genetic pool by importing semen from the best ‘Calificado’ P.R.E stallions the world has to offer.
Our breeding mares are carefully selected, including our non-Spanish mares that we use in our derivative programs. Why Black Horse Manor follows the Spanish System
At Black Horse Manor we believe very strongly in a ‘revision or classification’ system for breeding stock of any breed. Therefore by supporting the Spanish Studbook system we subject our horses to the Spanish protocol of ‘classification’, approval for breeding and the issue of Spanish passports.
As stated by ANCCE on their official website “… This is the one and only guarantee for breed purity... and the passport produced by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and ANCCE is the only documentation that guarantees that the animal is a Purebred Spanish Horse”.
Black Horse Manor Articial Insemination Policy
Black Horse Manor offers artificial insemination (AI) chilled semen to Pure Spanish Andalusians (non-PRE mares) and non Spanish mares. Occasionally we offer frozen semen from select stallions.
“Calicifcado” has not yet been offered to Australia and therefore we do not currently have Calicifcado (Qualified) stallions. As a result we do not offer AI to PRE mares.
Our AI breeding contract must be sign and returned before semen is collected and sent to the mare owner. Service fee payment is not due until a 16 day pregnancy test confirms pregnancy. All other fees are outlined in the breeding contract.
BHM No Colt Policy
Pure Spanish (PRE)
BHM has a no Pure Spanish (PRE) colt policy. This means that all BHM Pure Spanish (PRE) colts will be gelded at approximately 7 months old and will not be advertised at colt prices. If any client wishes to purchase a Pure Spanish (PRE) colt from a particular breeding they must contact the stud and negotiate the purchase.
Derivatives
Similar to the Pure Spanish (PRE) colt policy, all derivative colts will be gelded at approximately 7 months old. However, unlike the Pure Spanish (PRE) colt policy, derivatives will be offered and available for sale as a colt until they are gelded.
Some purpose bred derivatives such as Spanish Pintos, may be sold as stud prospects.
BHM Derivative Program
The BHM Derivative Program plays a fundamental role in the stud’s breeding program. It is well known that the Spanish horse produces a superb cross and we love the challenge of producing high quality open company purpose bred derivatives.
Only top quality mares are chosen to be crossed with our PRE stallions. Although we have our preferences for particular breeds, we will never disregard a mare if her movement, conformation, temperament and quality are what we are looking for.
Recently we have introduced an additional branch to our derivative program by using imported Warmblood semen to use to out top PRE mares. The stallions chosen are the world’s number one sires of European dressage horses and include stallions such as Sandro Hit and Don Schufro. Fillies from these breeding will be retained and crossed back to our PRE stallions. This is an exciting venture for us and we look forward to see the results when the best of one breed is crossed with the best of another.
Black Horse Manor Client Loyalty Rewards
BHM offers the following Loyalty rewards to our clients:
- Use any stallion owned by BHM that is standing at public stud and receive a 10% reduction on the service fee for the following season*.
- Bring more than one mare to any one stallion owned by BHM that is standing to public stud and receive 10% discount *.
- Clients that have previously sent mares to BHM stallions or purchased BHM horses have priority on BHM stallion’s bookings list for a season*.
- Purchase any Purebred filly from BHM and receive a 10% reduction on any service fee for any stallion owned by BHM that is standing at public stud, once the filly turns 3 yrs old*.
- Purchase any Partbred filly from BHM and receive a 10% reduction on any service fee for any stallion owned by BHM that is standing at public stud, once the filly turns 3 yrs old*.
*Conditions that apply:
- The reduction offered is only on services fees not associated costs.
- This offer is non-transferable if the horse is sold.
- All BHM breeding contracts still apply.
- Clients must give reasonable notice of mares to be booked to BHM stallions.
